Westside Atlanta: Yesterday’s Tomorrow
Westside Atlanta continually draws in creative professionals like architects, interior and event designers, graphic designers, visual and performance artists, and those working in the film, television and music industries—all of whom help shape the neighborhood’s distinct character and culture. A number of buildings and districts found in Westside conspicuously belong to a different era. Many are old factories and warehouses, some originally used for processing meat and agricultural products after the civil war, with provisions sent in and out from rural areas via railway. Yesterday these structures were mere architectural relics; today they are modern office and retail spaces, including art galleries, boutiques, eateries and cafes, professional services, as well as lofts and luxury living spaces.
A great example of successfully repurposed space can be found in the form of Westside Provisions District which include the White Provision Residences, a former thriving meat packing plant built in 1910 that has since become a landmark in the area. This mixed-use development houses dining, retail, office and living spaces, with an artisanal approach to providing goods from bread and cheese to exclusive apparel to high-end home furnishings. In fact, one of Atlanta’s most celebrated restaurants, the Zagat-rated Bacchanalia has made its name here at WSPD.

Navigating the Westside Art Scene
Westside Atlanta has a lively arts scene that rivals that of Midtown Atlanta‘s. But unlike Midtown, the prevalent trend focuses on contemporary and alternative art. Here you’ll find innumerable creative spaces like work studios, galleries, theaters, dance studios, live music and performance venues, such as the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. In the Westside Arts District you’ll find the much-loved Goat Farm Arts Center, a 10-acre 19th-century-industrial complex-turned-art-hub that provides indoor and outdoor studio space for over 400 artists, writers, designers, engineers, architects, performers, and many more creative types. Similarly, the Westside Cultural Arts Center and the King Plow Arts Center in the same district host various art exhibitions, concerts, contemporary and experimental performances, film screenings, workshops and seminars throughout the year.
