Picturesque Ansley Park is considered one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Atlanta and certainly one of the most desirable, too. It sits in a prime location just north of the Midtown and Downtown districts, yet offers a welcome respite that takes you seemingly far away from the bustling crowds and bright lights of the city. Ansley Park is a historically significant place, one whose foundations were built on old money, having attracted generations of Atlanta’s most affluent and prominent families. Homes range from the large, to the elegant, to the historic, and are often all three. Those looking for highrises and a roaring nightlife won’t find it here; instead you’ll find just outside the neighborhood limits all the urban conveniences you could hope for, while inside lie pretty green spaces and quiet, winding streets you could get lost on—all wrapped up in that charming, yet familiar, suburban comfort.

Ansley Park: Atlanta’s Garden

Although you might catch glimpses of the adjacent Midtown Atlanta skyline at its edges, Ansley Park is proudly a residential neighborhood. It’s an area that spans 275 acres with an extensive park system that includes no less than 14 parks and a private 45-acre Golf Club on the north end. One of the other things you’ll notice while passing through the neighborhood is its sometimes disorienting grid of wide, winding streets all lined with beautiful homes, each of a different façade. In fact, Ansley Park’s defining architectural style is perhaps its very mix of it. Here you’ll find an eclectic range of styles including Colonial, Neo-classical, Queen Anne, Tudor, Italianate, Craftsman, Prairie School, and Modern, among others. These homes have beautifully landscaped front yards and densely wooded backyards, mimicking the green spaces that characterize the neighborhood.

Ansley Park’s Accolades

Many of things that make Ansley Park the way it is was made possible by the efforts of the Ansley Park Civic Association, who since the 1960s, has taken measures to ensure that the neighborhood retain its integrity throughout the decades—despite the imposing presence of Atlanta’s great urban sprawl. Ansley Park’s high status among the locals goes way back, long before it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Businessman, attorney and real estate developer Edwin P. Ansley in 1904 envisioned a prestigious suburb fit for Atlanta’s elite with enough room to accommodate new symbols of their wealth, such as the automobile (hence the wide, winding streets). That vision grew and bettered itself over the course of a century, so much so that the American Planning Association, a professional organization that specializes in urban planning in the US, named Ansley Park one of the ten Great Neighborhoods in America in 2011.
