Inman Park has the honor of being Atlanta’s first planned suburb. Inman Park's Past

Planning for Atlanta’s first streetcar neighborhood first began in the 1890s and culminated in its completion in 1912 with the help of some of the city’s best architects. For years wealthy Inman Park residents conveniently traveled via streetcar to work in downtown while the neighborhood itself flourished. As automobiles gained widespread use, well-to-do families began moving further and further out into the suburbs, leading to Inman Park’s decline. It wasn’t until the 1970s that preservation and restoration efforts became an agenda for the community (the neighbourhood was even added to National Register of Historic Places in 1973), thanks to a renewed reverence for an architectural aesthetic that had long become outdated.

Inman Park's Present

Inman Park’s renaissance is aptly symbolized by the butterfly logo you’ll spot all over town. If you look closely you’ll see two faces outlined in the pattern of the butterfly’s wings, one face looking to the neighborhood's past and the other looking toward the community’s future. The spirit of the neighborhood’s renewed life is celebrated on the last weekend of April at the annual Inman Park Festival and Tour of Homes. Considered by many to be Atlanta’s best street festival, this lively, crowd-drawing three-day event rightly showcases the neighbourhood’s unique character with a fun mix of costumes, performance art, live bands, an arts & crafts market and a festive street parade.

One of the newest additions to Inman Park worth checking out is Krog Street Market, a widely-acclaimed mixed-use "epicurean center" and food hall that opened in late 2014, right in the heart of the neighborhood.
